Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer for many; most schools start back up, the weather slowly starts to turn, and fall sports such as football make their return. Metro Detroit likes to end things on a high note, however, as Labor Day weekend is always great to get one last taste of summer. Labor Day weekend is full of rich Metro Detroit traditions, so be sure to end summer 2019 at one of these great events.
Celebrating 40 years of highlighting the best jazz musicians around the world, the Detroit Jazz Festival returns to downtown Detroit this weekend. The Labor Day weekend tradition will feature shows beginning on Friday night and running through Monday night. Information on all of the performances across the five different stages can be found on the event’s website.
Another festival celebrating its 40th anniversary this weekend is the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival. The free event will feature a Polish Day parade, live music, carnival fun for the whole family, and of course its infamous canoe races. The competition featuring push-carts on wheels pits patrons of different bars against each other in a race down Joseph Campau.
Arguably the peachiest Labor Day weekend tradition in Metro Detroit is the Romeo Peach Festival. The 88th annual festival will feature more than enough peaches and peach pies, but also its annual Fun Run, carnival rides, Kidsfest, a craft show, a classic car show, corn mazes and much more. Labor Day itself will see the return of the kids parade and community parade kicking off at 10 a.m.

The Saline Community Fair makes its Labor Day weekend return, as festivities have already begun and will run through Monday, September 2. Live animals, dance parties, talent shows, rodeos, AutoCross derbies, tractor shows, carnival rides and much more will be on-hand throughout the festival. Franklin Art in the Village and Parade
Taking place on Labor Day itself, the Franklin Art in the Village and Parade returns with fine art, pony rides, rock climbing, classic cars, pet adoption, and of course a community parade. The family fun will also feature exhibits by the city’s historical society and garden club. The free art show will begin at 10 a.m. by Village Green while the parade begins in Downtown Franklin at 11:30 a.m.
